Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and one of its most popular tourist destinations. An advanced, high-income economy with a very high Human Development Index, Cyprus was a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement until it joined the European Union on 1 May 2004.
The Republic of Cyprus has de jure sovereignty over the entire island of Cyprus and its surrounding waters except small portions that are allocated by treaty to the United Kingdom as sovereign military bases.
The Republic of Cyprus is de facto partitioned into two main parts, the area under the effective control of the Republic of Cyprus, comprising about 59% of the island's area and the Turkish-occupied area in the north, calling itself the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, covering about 37% of the island's area and recognized only by Turkey.

Being Moms home town, we enjoy the visit and company of family and a daily feast. We spend time downtown shopping on Ledra Street and visit some of the many churches/monasteries in Nicosia. Later, we enjoy a coffee and then a few drinks as we take in the nightlife. The starting point of many of our adventures, our next one takes us across the Green Line into Turkish occupied territory.

PAPHOS

The drive along the Cyprus coast towards Paphos is simply amazing so we stop and take photos looking down towards the birthplace of Aphrodite. Petra Tou Romiou or Aphrodites Rock must be viewed more closely so we drive closer and then walk along the beach to take more photos. We finish our day with a walk down the trail to the Baths of Aphrodite at Latchi. See Photos
